Consumer Goods Safety (KC Mark)

FITI is the institution responsible for certifying KC Mark for the items related to the safety of consumer goods, carrying out safety certification, self-safety and safety quality marking. In addition, as a designated product safety investigation agency, FITI contributes to protection for consumers by checking safety of goods in market via sampling tests.
The KC Mark system is regulated by Korean Agency for Technology and Standard, a sub-organization of Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and is divided into 4 categories by the intensity of harmfulness of products inflicted to consumer safety, as shown below. For more details on Consumer Goods safety, please visit the website listed below.
Certification - Consumer Goods Safety (KC Mark)
Safety Certification , Self-safety Check , Safety Quality Marking, Child Protection Packaging
Safety Certification The goods under this category are the products regarded as those with high risk in inflicting harmfulness to the lives and bodies of consumers and damages to properties and/or environment. As a result, they are subject to be tested for sampling checks as well as product tests in order to secure the safety from their manufacturing stages
Self-safety Check The goods under this category are the products with potential harmfulness to the bodies of consumers and they can inflict damages by their structure, substance and/or usage while the damages can be prevented by sampling tests. Therefore, the manufacturers and/or importers are to launch self-safety checks and attach the test results from the designated testing institutions in order to achieve self-managed safety via registering them to certification authorities.
Safety Quality Marking The goods under this category are the products with potential harmfulness to cause accidents or damages during handling, using or delivering them and the products that are difficult to be identified by consumers, so the manufacturers and/or importers can do self-safety checks and mark the results on the goods.
Child Protection Packaging  The goods under this category are the products with some potential danger when inhaled or consumed; so the packaging of the products are designed to be opened easily by adults but difficult for children under age of 5 for the safety
